Round 3 - SEQ Catchments
‘Green Domain’, Tamborine Mountain Landcare’s service to private land holders has received major cash support totalling $58,000.00 from SEQ Catchments Round 3 grant.
As a requirement of the grant’s conditions, the funding will be applied rehabilitation works on private land holdings along Cedar Creek. This catchment is crucial to the quality of the water entering the Albert River, and several private property reaches along Cedar Creek have been identified for weed eradication and creek-line planting.
The particular sections are isolated either side by Tamborine National Park, and are considered to be major links for the Corridors Regeneration Project. Tamborine Mountain Landcare is responsible for administering the grant funds, the progress reports, clearing and planting advice.
Immediate operational considerations required direct consultation with land owners, then agreements were drafted and arrangements are in progress for subcontractors to manager the project and provide the labour.
The project is quite large scale and especially with a relatively short time frame, finalised by December of this year.
News of the application and approval was received at very short notice and vice president, Cornelia Meesters together with Doug White (project officer), scrambled to seek support from local land owners, and inspect the project’s grounds. Well done!
Currently there are four private land holdings which support the project: Thunderbird Park; Ian Moore’s property; Avalon Gardens; and plants can now be purchased for the Wilson Road (Guanaba Creek) project. This concession has been approved by SEQ Catchments.
Another condition of the grant will provide the allocation of $2,000.00 for a special public awareness and field day and we look forward to the support from volunteers to help make this a special event.
There are a number of considerations for this event and one very kind offer came from the Tamborine Mountain Historical Society, to use the grounds of their Wongawallan Road venue.
You are welcome to offer your ideas to make this field day something special. On behalf of the membership and committees, special thanks to Steve Lyngcoln of SEQ Catchments for the generous support and his continued cooperation with TM Landcare’s Corridors Regeneration Project.. |
