Environmental Community Group of the Year!!! Yesterday Queenslanders proudly celebrated the birth of their state as a self-governing colony, the anniversary of the date on which Queen Victoria signed documents granting Queensland the right to its own representative government.
One hundred and forty-nine years on, the volunteers of Tamborine Mountain Landcare received the inaugural Forde Queensland Day Award for Environmental Community Group of the Year.
The award was presented by Mr Brett Raguse MP, federal member for the electoral division of Forde.
The nomination for the award involves: Members who weed, plant and maintain the many forest regeneration projects throughout Tamborine Mountain; the many who voluntarily offer their time and expertise supporting research, recording, administration, catering and organising; the volunteers of TM Landcare's own bookshop - The Piccabeen Bookshop; committee members and office bearers.
TM Landcare volunteers often work independently, but are brought together by sharing one common objective: protecting and rehabilitating the natural environment right in the very locale of the residents of Tamborine Mountain. The association formulated a very cleverly crafted objective to which all volunteers easily follow: the Corridors Regeneration Project. This project is designed to reconnect the many remnant forest stands on Tamborine Mountain.
Congratulations and well done! |
