Loreto College has made a donation of $200 dollars to TM landcare. This was in appreciation of the services of volunteers: Brian Davison, Wendy Morgan, Glynis Orr, Lynn Churchill and Jaap on Monday and Tuesday last week.
The 140 year 8 girls from the college visited the Tamborine Mountain Rainforest Park (Esme St.) as part of a 'day on the Mountain' where they also did Environmental and geographic studies in Palm Grove National Park. Brian spoke to the groups of students about the history of the Mountain, how rainforests are formed, local fauna, regeneration and the value of corridors. Then they were given an information seeking tour around the park by Wendy, Lynn and Glynis. Jaap 'captured' the students (some more enthusiastic than the others) with a display and talk about two small Pythons which he is caring for.
It was a pleasure to have this school visit as the girls were well prepared for the study and had a number of 'investigative worksheets' to fill in. All this makes the trip much more educationally effective. Loreto College did a similar trip last year.
Our Education Sub-committee consider that the TM Rainforest Park is an excellent teaching venue. Thanks must go to John Bestevaar for keeping the Park weed free and 'regenerating' and David Bird for keeping the paths in pristine condition.
