Short report AGM
Ohia Court group receives Piccabeen Award
A well attended Annual General Meeting of TM Landcare enjoyed a lot of good news about the developments in the revegetation of our mountain. Landcare volunteers worked over 10,000 hours in our local rainforests in the past 12 months, supported by over 6,000 hours of external volunteer teams. The value of Landcares work (including in kind contributions) exceed half a million dollars a year.
The Council and SEQ-Catchments are very much appreciated being the major suppliers of financial support, but the Piccabeen secondhand bookshop is growing and is an essential source of funding as well. Landcare thanks the community for its support and its dozens of volunteers for their active contributions both in the on ground projects, as in committees, administration and management and the bookshop. The Executive committee expressed its concerns about the increasing workload on the organization caused by administrative requirements. Receiving financial support and doing the real ‘on ground job’ is one thing, meeting all admin requirements is another. The managerial and administration burden is basically too big.
At the meeting Thor and Bec Anderson received the $ 5,000 cheque for winning the Tiles for Trees competition, because they could not make it to the announcement on 28 July.
For the first time the Piccabeen awards were given to members and non-members who have contributed above average in the Landcare activities. The Piccabeen Presidents Award went to Vice President Cornelia Meesters, for her ongoing active contributions to Landcare and the many responsibilities she has taken over the past year. Conservation Volunteers Australia received the Piccabeen Green Award, for their overall support in general and for the many teams (including GreenCorps) they have supplied to Tamborine Mountain free of charge in particular. The relationship with CVA is a very effective form of partnership.
The Piccabeen Gold Award has been received by the Ohia Court Team. This group of local residents is doing a fantastic job in revegetating the riparian zone of the creek, encouraged by the great leadership of Judith Roland; Judith proudly accepted the award from the head of the Piccabeen Awards Jury, Harry Briggs (see picture).
Finally the meeting elected a new management board: Jaap Vogel (president), Cornelia Meesters (vice-president), Alan O’Neill (secretary), John Tiley (treasurer) and five members: Dorean Erhardt, Tony Lambert, Tony Smallwood, Brian Davison and Hugh Wackwitz.
The atmosphere at the meeting was very pleasant and cheerful, as are the many activities of TM Landcare. If you like to join the club, you are very welcome. Pop in at the Piccabeen bookshop and get information about membership and/or opportunities for active involvement.
