The Richmond Birdwing Butterfly was once common on Tamborine Mountain but has now become rare following habitat disturbance, loss of food plants and drought. On Saturday 22 September TM Landcare organizes together with TM NHA , the Council and the Richmond Birdwing Recovery Network a workshop about this butterfly and the restoration of its habitat. The good thing is that you contribute yourself: plant the right plants in your garden en you will attract these beautiful butterflies. Together we can attract them to the mountain again! The workshop starts 9.15 am for 9.30 start and lasts till 1.00 pm, Eagle Heights Resort. It is a free workshop, but the numbers are limited. You will learn about:
- Identities of Pararistolochia & the look-a-like vines
- History, decline, in-breeding & current projects to save the butterfly
- Nursery and garden cultivation of vines
- Recording wild vines; establishing stations & links
- Mapping schedule & the National database
The Workshop includes:
- A Richmond Birdwing Butterfly Vine to get you started
- Information Booklet
- Morning tea
