Exciting programm 28 July

Prizes, Puppets and Private Property Plans

On 28 July you will enjoy yourself at the Library North Tamborine with information desks, a puppet theatre, a live quoll and the introduction of Green Domain, a new support program for private land holders, developed by TM Landcare.

Between 9 am and noon Landcare invites private property owners to learn about Green Domain. You have a property of ¼ acre, or maybe real acreage, and you should like to revegetate (part of) it. But where do you begin? How do you find knowledgeable experts and subcontractors? Can you get support by Council or other governmental bodies? Do you need permits? Lots of questions, but hardly any answers. Landcare developed together with QPWS, the Council, CVA and SEQ-Catchments ‘Green Domain’, a program for your support.

If you have plans to revegetate (part of) your property, than pop in between 9 and 12 and learn about Green Domain, as well as about a new mapping system based on aerial photography. In the afternoon Landcare offers three field workshops / guided walks also especially for you. Join in there as well – and take your family with you during the useful and pleasant walks (and talks).

At this Community Awareness Day 2007 Landcare offers more. For the kids Margie’s Puppet Theatre will run the show ‘Hattie and the Backyard Critters’ about cats, dogs and wildlife. Traditional owners will give information at the outdoors market, as will representatives of The Border Ranges Project, Landcare, NHA and the quoll project. Even a live quoll be on display. The TM Rotary Club organizes a sausage sizzle. At 11 am the winners of the Tiles for Trees competition and the My Backyard Critters Photo Competition will be announced.

In the afternoon you can learn about revegetation in the practical sense. In workshops you talk with the on ground experts and with property owners who have experienced what you want, or do not want, to experience yourself: successes and failures. Walk, talk and learn (check for the latest details about the workshops on 28 July at the morning market at the Library).

Between 12 and 1 pm you are welcome at Numala, the first Nature Refuge project on the mountain. Meet at 12 noon at the Numala gate, Eastern end of Curtis Road. Learn about the successful regeneration of the rainforests around the Botanic Garden between 1.30 (meet at Car Park) and 2.30, and celebrate with Landcare’s Botanic Garden Team the completion of stage one of that project (about two years ahead of schedule!).

The last walk of the day starts at 3pm at the gate of 74 West Road. That 5 acres property is three years into the revegetation of the previous avocado orchard. Learn about the successes, failures, pitfalls and opportunities of doing the job as good as possible with limited resources (and limited knowledge!).

The Landcare Community Awareness Day 2007 offers something for everyone. Landcare hopes to welcome you on 28 July.
